This event has already taken place. Please keep an eye out for future events!

As explained in this post, for our guild's anniversary this year rather than throwing a party, go out in the real world and do some good works in the name of the Sleeper Cartel!

Let's establish the guild as a service organization outside the game as well as in the game, and start a tradition of a "day of good works" done in the name of the Sleeper Cartel and to benefit your community.

Sign up here, and let us know how many of you are interested in making as much of an impact in the real world as we do in-game. If you sign up, let us know what cause you support and/or are thinking about supporting during the Sleeper Cartel Donation and Charity Drive!

Don't worry - we'll still throw a party in April, but rather than it being an in-game celebration of our anniversary, it will be a server-wide spring party.

I love it.

And remember that it needn't be anything too grand. Simply doing something to help, which you might not normally have done is the important part.

The cause that I support is blood donation - here's why:

Years ago, a good friend of mine was accidentally shot. It was over Labor Day weekend, and summer blood supplies were low. He had that "odd" blood type, and the hospital did not have enough blood on-hand to replenish what he was losing from his wound. He died from a perfectly survivable injury, had the blood been there and available. I give whenever I am physically able and the Red Cross lets me know when there are blood drives in my area. It's the cause that I back with my whole heart - I don't want someone else to loose a loved one because of something like this ever again, and if I can help to keep that from happening, I'm going to do it.

On March 11, I plan to donate blood. Even if I have to travel to my regional Red Cross office to do it.

Having many friends that have died of AIDS I try and do as much work in that field as possible. On March 11 I plan on working with the local HIV Clinic to assist them in whatever ways possible (from getting patients from their homes to their doctors appts, to helping clean up and file papers).

I love the service work idea for the guild, and hope that each of you invovled finds just as much self satisfaction in helping others as I do.

I have been debating as to what exactly I would do for this. Today an oppertunity fell in my lap while I was at work. I found out that the CMS Spouse's Group was looking for volunteers to help with the Children's Easter Carnival. This takes place on March 15th. This event is free for the parents and children to attend. It is sponsered by the spouses group which provides refreshments, candy and prizes for the children, but they rely on volunteers to actually make it happen. While these children are not considered "needy", they do lead stressfull lives for an adolesent. Most of them have a father or mother (in some cases both) who are deployed or will be deployed to the middle east and if you think that doesn't deeply affect a child let me tell you this.

Shotly after I came back from my last deployment I was looking at some pictures with my son. Among them were a couple of pictures of a little boy. In one picture the boy was obviously happy, and in another he was obviously sad. When we looked at the picture of the happy boy I asked my son "What is that a picture of?". My son replied "That boy is happy." I asked him "Why do you suppose he is happy?" My son said "Because his mommy and daddy are with him." Then we looked at the picture of the sad boy and I asked my son "What is that a picture of?" My son replied "That boy is sad." I asked my son "Why do you suppose he is sad?" My son said "Because his daddy is gone."

While the children who attend this event are not poverty stricken or sickly, they are bystanders of a war that they don't understand and did not ask for. To some degree they suffer from depression and neglect and its events like this that help these children cope with the additional stress that is placed upon them.

I'm going to be running the "Bunny Basketball Booth", where the kids get to shoot hoops for candy and prizes =D

Since this is on a Tuesday, I'm going to go help out with our local food bank. I have had to use this particular one myself and it's run by a bunch of great people. I won't be able to be behind the counter, but I can help bag the food and carry it out for people to their vehicles and that sort of thing. Anything that needs doing I'll help with.

If you can, try and have someone take photographs of you doing your volunteer work. I think it'd be great to see some of the interesting and inventive ways we're helping out in our communities!

Fo the past 7 months, I have been working with the Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers' Memorial Committee to place a memorial to the fallen Pikes Peaks Region Law Enforcement Officers, located in Colorado Springs. Being in my profession, I am actually designing the site and landscape plans for this memorial - trying to incorporate all the meanings and thoughts the Law Enforcement Agencies feel are important and surprising them with a few of my own.

I don't know that this would be considered for this Charity Drive, which is why I hadn't mentioned it previously, but I feel it is something important that I am doing for the community. Working on this project means a bundle to me as my best friend is in the Police Force and I have met several "Boys in Blue" while working on the committee that have a special place in my heart now . Knowing that one of the officers I have been working with may, someday, have his name on this Memorial for being killed in the line of duty is something I think about everytime I work on the drawings.

Although I have always known the sacrifice they suffer from protecting us all, it has hit a little closer to home when I hear them speak of it - and what it means to them. I feel I have personally grown just by working on this project and I think that is the heart of this "event".

Unfortunately, unless you want a picture of me sitting in a committee discussing the designs, I won't be providing photographs until May, when the ground-breaking ceremony is - tentatively - scheduled to take place. I could, if you want, provide any number of grahics or you can visit the website.

EDIT: Due to fund-raising issues - the ground-breaking ceremony has been postponed to an undetermined date. Although everyone is bummed, everyone agreed it is for the best in order to complete a true "first phase" of the project.

I love your charity, Aingeal, and I think your work is fantastic!

Remember guys, this is tomorrow for the "main event", but if you can do something this week on any day, that's fine too. Just let us know what you've done so we can toot your horn a little bit!

I'd love to see this thread (or the one on the general scrawl) explode over the next couple of days with entries. I'm contemplating sending a run-down of what we've done to my local news - maybe they'll do a story on something good for a change! *grin*

I have three causes I support and I'll be doing my donations tomorrow for them.

In honor of my mom who is battling Parkinson's and Ovarian Cancer, I support both the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

And in honor of my nephew, I support Autism Speaks.

For me, it's gonna be my Tiger Cub den. I've been a den leader since September of (now) eight boys including my son. Each month, we rotate the costs of den supplies through the different parents. This month is our last month as a Tiger den. In fact, on Saturday the boys all get their badges and we start doing the Wolf Cub stuff next month.

Tomorrow then is our last meeting as Tigers, and as luck would have it, it's the date of the charity drive. So, I've taken on the materials / snack costs for these two meetings. When were done with the meeting, I'll be sure to take pictures of all the boys and the parents as a memento.

......and if you think I look the sexay in my Soulforge set, just wait till you see me IRL in my Den Leader uniform!

For my "charity" I donated money to a friend who is raising funds to pay for a surgery her dog needs badly. So I didn't really help the greater good of mankind, but I sure did make her day a bit brighter! :-)
